Kinston, N.C. - The Down East Wood Ducks were held to just two hits, both infield singles, as they suffer their first shutout loss of the season, falling, 5-0, to the Hillcats on Friday.

A.J. Alexy (loss, 0-2) started for the Woodies (5-3) and pitched well, but Jodd Carter blasted a leadoff home run in the third inning to give the Hillcats (7-2) all the offense they would need. Lynchburg added another run in the fourth when Nolan Jones began the frame with a single, stole second, and came into score on a Jonathan Laureano double to left to make it 2-0.
Alexy worked 4.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits, he walked one and struck out five, but suffers the tough luck loss.
Meanwhile Lynchburg starter Eli Morgan (win, 2-0) was fantastic. He faced just two over the minimum through five shutout innings, allowing just two infield singles and a walk, while striking out nine. The Wood Ducks did not record a hit in the ballgame after the second inning.
Lynchburg added on in the seventh inning when Tyler Friis blooped in a two runs with a single to right. Friis then added on another in the ninth, with a fielder's choice groundout, with the bases full, to make it 5-0.
Out of the bullpen Sal Mendez gave up a pair of runs in a season high 3.2 innings of work, while Demarcus Evans surrendered the final run, while striking out a pair in the ninth.
