ZEBULON, NC - The Wood Ducks (26-21) could not solve league ERA leader Cam Roegner as they dropped the series finale to the Mudcats (24-23) by an 11-3 final. Alex Kowalczyk extended his on-base streak to 18 games despite the loss

Anderson Tejeda also had a three-hit game, his second of the season. In all, the offense only managed seven hits with three off of the starter Roegner.
Both teams were scoreless after one, but the Mudcats tagged Down East starter Michael Matuella with a solo homer in the second. They would load the bases with no outs in the third and Weston Wilson connected on a grand slam to push the lead to 5-0.
Matuella exited after a two-run double in the fourth and Kaleb Fontenot left an inherited runner stranded.
The Woodies would not score until Roegner exited against the Carolina bullpen. Tejeda's second hit, an RBI single, brought home the first run for the Woodies. Melvin Novoa would add an RBI groundout, and Tejeda would score on a wild pitch.
After the Mudcats extended the lead in the seventh, the Woodies opted to use Josh Altmann to pitch the eighth for the second time this season and the seventh time in his career. He faced the minimum thanks to a double play to end the inning.
The DEWDs return home for a seven-game home stand on Friday at 7:00 p.m. hosting the Frederick Keys. Right-hander Walker Weickel (1-3, 4.89) will start for Down East opposite Michael Baumann (1-0, 1.29).
