COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - TinCaps right fielder Tirso Ornelas  and starting pitcher Nick Margevicius  both dazzled on Thursday night to surge Fort Wayne to a 3-0 shutout victory against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) at Fifth Third Ballpark. The win marks the first shutout of the season for the TinCaps.

Margevicius tied a Fort Wayne season-long throwing seven scoreless frames, scattering five hits and walking only one while striking out seven batters. The 21-year-old southpaw out of Rider University now holds a 7.38 K/BB ratio, which is the best in the Midwest League.

At the plate, Ornelas led the way going 3-for-4 with two doubles, his first triple of the season, an RBI, and a run scored. Third baseman Luis Almanzar  also chipped in a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. The TinCaps tied a season high by tallying seven extra base hits all together.

Fort Wayne (21-25) started the scoring early. In the top of the first inning, catcher Luis Campusano drove in Ornelas from second to collect an RBI double and put the TinCaps on top, 1-0.

The TinCaps added onto their lead in the top of the second. Shortstop Gabriel Arias  walked on four pitches to lead off, and Almanzar drove him home with an RBI double to center field to give Fort Wayne a 2-0 advantage.

Fort Wayne was not finished as they extended on their lead in the top of the fifth inning. A leadoff double from center fielder Jeisson Rosario put a runner in scoring position for Ornelas who delivered with a triple down the right-field line to score Rosario and extend the TinCaps lead to 3-0.

West Michigan (26-20) could only muster five hits on the night against the great pitching from Margevicius and reliever Travis Radke  who came out of the 'pen to go two innings, not allowing a hit and striking out three batters while collecting the save.
