Rock Cats 2015 Roster Set For Opening Day
New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, has announced its 2015 Opening Day Roster. The 25-man roster includes four players with Major League experience, the Rockies #1 overall prospect, two first round picks and three of the organizations' top 12 prospects according to the scouting publication, Baseball America. The Rock Cats will start the season with 13 pitchers and 12 position players.
Pitchers Yohan Flande (Colorado), Justin Miller (Detroit), Jose Ortega (Detroit) and Gus Schlosser (Atlanta) all pitched in the Major Leagues in 2014. Rockies top prospect OF David Dahl has made the Double-A club for the first time after a breakout season last year. C Tom Murphy (Baseball America #6) and INF Trevor Story (Baseball America #12) rank among the top prospects in the Rockies system. Dahl was the Rockies' top pick (10th overall) in 2012 and Story was the Rockies first round pick in 2011 (45th overall).
This is the first season of a two-year player development contract (PDC) between the Rock Cats and Rockies. The Sporting News has ranked the Rockies farm system as the 4th best among 30 major league organizations heading into the 2015 system and Baseball America rated them as 8th. The Rock Cats open the 2015 season on Thursday in New Hampshire and after a 7-game road trip return to New Britain Stadium for the home opener on Wednesday, April 16th (6:35 PM) against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate).
