Goats Find Out Who's Their Daddy In Loss

June 17, 2016

READING- Dylan Cozens' two-out single in the fifth snapped a tie and helped lift the red-hot Reading Fightin' Phils to a 5-3 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats Thursday afternoon in Reading. The game was played in a steady mist.

Hartford was swept in the series, after holding at least a three-run lead in each of the three games. The Yard Goats (36-28) dropped to 10 ½ games behind Reading (48-19), which has won 10 straight and 15 of 16 games.

Apropos with Father's Day approaching, the Yard Goats were done in by the sons of two ex-big league players. Jesmuel Valentin started the reading comeback with homer and later scored the tie-breaking run. He is the son of former big leaguer Jose Valentin. Mark Leiter Jr., who pitched six innings to improve to 3-0, is the son of former MLB pitcher Mark Leiter and the nephew of ex-pitcher Al Leiter.

David Dahl paced the Hartford attack with two hits, including his 13th home run of the season. Dillon Thomas extended his hitting streak to nine games with two hits. Dahl, Thomas and Rosell Herrera knocked in the Hartford runs.

Hartford begins a three-game series Friday night at Altoona. (RHP) Zach Jemiola will pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate. Game is 7:00 PM and the contest will be broadcast on News Radio 1410 WPOP.
