San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino used a late-rally and big nights at the plate from Spencer Brown, Jose Guzman and Braxton Martinez to down the Lake Elsinore Storm 9-4 at San Manuel Stadium on Saturday night. Brown had a career-game with two homers including a go-ahead grand slam knocking home five while the Sixers pitching duo of Jack Kochanowicz and Dakota Donovan (4-2) combined to strike out eight without a walk.

The Sixers (37-33) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth with two outs when Guzman notched his first hit of the game, a single against Lake Elsinore (32-39) starter Nick Thwaits. Elijah Greene followed by tripling Guzman home for the first score of the night; Guzman’s single ran his hit-streak to nine and Greene’s three-bagger moved his to ten consecutive games. In the fifth, Brown launched a lead-off solo homer off the video board in right-center for a 2-0 advantage. The Sixers then put two on versus Thwaits who left with a leg injury. With the bases loaded, Guzman beat out a RBI infield single making it 3-0. The Storm came back, aided by a Sixers’ throwing error, and took a lead in the sixth when with the bases loaded Sean Guilbe delivered a two-run single, Carlos Luis punched a game-tying RBI single and a go-ahead run came home on a fielder’s choice from Alison Quintero against Sixers’ starter Kochanowicz. Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, Sixers’ DH Braxton Martinez led off the frame with a solo homer to dead center to tying the game 4-4; it was Martinez’ ninth homer of the year and came in his first game played since July 16th. After lefty Gabe Moralez (2-2) got an out, Guzman singled for his third hit of the night. Greene followed with a single and Julio De La Cruz drew a walk to load the bags. Brown then crushed a 1-0 offering out to right onto E Street for a grand slam; Brown now has five homers on the season and gave the Sixers a 8-4 advantage. Martinez added a RBI single in the ninth pushing the score to 9-4. Donovan got the win with three shutout frames giving up just two hits and fanning four.

The series concludes Sunday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be seen and heard live on 66ers.com.
