Bierfeldt's Big Day Leads Aberdeen to 10-4 Win

Staten Island, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds won their second game in a row and their second game of the season, beating the Staten Island Yankees 10-4 as Conor Bierfeldt had a career night.

Bierfeldt got the start in right field, and took full advantage of the opportunity. He homered to deep left in the second inning to tie the game at one.

Staten Island would take the lead again in the third. The first four batters would reach, and the Yankees would use back to back doubles to take a 4-1 lead.

Aberdeen chipped away in the fourth. Kris Richards doubled, and Bierfeldt followed with one of his two doubles. Two batters later, Tanner Rust would hit a ground out that scored Bierfeldt and the IronBirds trailed 4-3 after four innings.

The IronBirds had opportunities to score, but would wait until the eighth inning to strike. Aberdeen sent 11 batters to the plate, using two hits (including another Bierfeldt double), four walks, and taking advantage of a Staten Island error. All told, Bierfeldt, Rust, Anthony Vega, Jared Breen, Sam Kimmel and Trey Mancini all came in to score, making it 9-4 Aberdeen.

The IronBirds tacked on an extra run in the ninth. Rust led off with a single and scored when Kimmel grounded into a double play.

Michael Joseph got the win, improving to 1-0. Sam Agnew-Wieland took the loss, dropping to 0-1. The same two teams will meet tomorrow. LHP Luc Rennie (0-1, 1.93) will go for Aberdeen, while Staten Island will counter with RHP Jairo Heredia (0-0 0.00).
