Spinners Batter IronBirds, 7-3

August 28, 2013

Lowell, MA - The Lowell Spinners used a big first inning to beat the Aberdeen IronBirds, 7-3. With the Brooklyn win tonight, the IronBirds now sit in second place in the McNamara Division.

In the bottom of the first inning, Aberdeen starter Mitch Horacek ran into trouble. Leadoff batter Forrestt Allday hit a single. Two batters later, Manuel Mager hit a double that put runners on second and third with one out. Kevin Mager then hit a ball to center that was misplayed by center fielder George Barber. The ball rolled all the way to the wall, and when the throw got away from the cutoff man, Mager scored on what was originally ruled a hit and an error. That was changed to an inside the park home run, just the second home run that Mitch Horacek has given up all season.

Aberdeen got a run back on back to back doubles from Austin Wynns and Ronarsy Ledesma, making it 3-1 after two.

Lowell put the game out of reach in the fifth. After scoring once in the third, the Spinners sent seven batters to the plate, using a walk and four consecutive singles to make it 7-1.

Mike Yastrzemski hit a one out RBI triple in the sixth and then scored on a Trey Mancini groundout, making it 7-3 Spinners.

Horacek takes the loss, falling to 5-4.

Aberdeen returns home tomorrow and opens up a two-game home stand against the Hudson Valley Renegades. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
