Captains Tomahawked by Braves 4-1

(Rome, GA) - The Lake Captains had their four game winning streak snapped as the offense never got on track as the Rome Brave defeated the Captains 4-1 on Friday. The Captains are 4-1 on the current eight game road trip.

The Braves put up a run in the bottom of the first inning against Captains starter Ryan Morris when with runners at second and third, Freddie Freeman grounded out scoring C.J. Lee from third and the Braves led 1-0. The Captains tied it up in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mark Thompson got a single off of Braves starter Richard Sullivan which scored Richard Martinez to make it 1-1.

Mike Pontius came on for the Captains in the sixth inning and gave up his first run of the year when Michael Fisher doubled home Samuel Sime and the Braves led 2-1. The score went to 4-1 when Cody Johnson belted a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning off of Garrett Rieck.

Morris got a no decision going five innings allowing one run on four hits walking one and striking out seven. Pontius (0-1) took the loss pitching two innings and allowing the one run. Benino Puneda got the win to even his record at 4-4 and Tommy Palica notched his eighth save pitching a scoreless ninth.

The Captains and Braves play game two of the four game series on Saturday at 7:00 PM. The Captains will send LHP Ryan Miller (7-7, 3.07) to the mound against Braves RHP Erik Cordier (1-0, 3.29). The Captains return home on Wednesday August 20th to wrap up the regular season portion of the home schedule as they host the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Captains will host the SAL playoffs beginning on September 5th.

Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Play Offs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Play Offs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Play Offs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
