Trahan Provides Fireworks in 6-2 Hawks Win

(South Bend, IN)- Stryker Trahan hit a solo homerun to lead off the third inning and the Silver Hawks went on to beat Lake County 6-2. Trahan now has 12 homers on the season and five have come off of Lake County. South Bend scored three runs in the inning and after five led the game 5-2. The Captains have lost back-to-back games and have struck out 11 or more times in three straight games.

Lake County scored two runs to take the early lead in the top of the first inning. Claudio Bautista was hit-by-a-pitch to start the game. Nellie Rodriguez then unloaded his 11th homerun of the season over the right left field wall and the Captains led 2-0.

South Bend scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. With two on and two outs Andrew Velazquez singled home a run to make the score 2-1. Later in the inning, Velazquez was part of a double steal and took home as the throw went down to second base. The score was tied at 2-2.

South Bend added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Munoz doubled to left field to lead off. Munoz took third on a wild pitch and scored on a separate wild pitch. The score was 6-2. That was the final.

RHP Caleb Hamrick (2-4) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Hamrick went four innings and yielded nine hits and five earned runs. Hamrick walked two and struck out two. Wander Beras pitched three innings of relief and allowed just one run on three hits with one strikeout. Jimmy Stokes pitched and inning with two strikeouts.

RHP Blayne Weller (4-4) started for South Bend and earned the win. Weller allowed two earned runs on four hits, two walks and he struck out nine. Weller pitched six complete innings. The Hawks bullpen consisted of two pitchers and they held the Captains scoreless for the final three innings.

The Captains will continue a three game road series on Saturday Night in South Bend, Indiana. The Captains will send RHP Dace Kime (4-9 4.97) to the mound to start the ballgame. The Silver Hawks will counter with RHP Sean Furney (3-4, 4.70). First Pitch is at 7:35 PM from Four Winds Field.
