LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - It was not a home stand the Storm faithful would like to remember, but there were moments of greatness that gave all Storm and Padres followers much hope for a bright future.
The team made a lot of noise at the plate in the first of a three-game set against the Modesto Nuts that began Friday in front of 4,000+, scoring seven on 14 base hits, paced by Luis Torrens, who had a three-hit performance while walking twice.
Despite multi-hit performances from five Storm players, errors proved costly and the Nuts capitalized to win 9-7.
The home team's bats fell quiet on Saturday, in front of nearly 5,000 Storm fans, as the good guys were only to squeeze one late run out of five hits in a tough 2-1 loss.
Sunday was a different story for Lake Elsinore, as Hudson Potts, Eguy Rosario, Edward Olivares and Luis Torrens all collected multi-hit games, led by Potts' three hits, which included a pair of doubles and his seventh home run of the season.
Chris Paddack, just two starts removed from Tommy John surgery, showed great stuff once again, tossing four shutout innings while giving up just a walk and three hits while collecting nine strikeouts. He has yet to give up an earned run through 10 innings of work.
The team scored eight runs on twelve hits to salvage a win against the Nuts before sending them back to Modesto.
After an off day on Monday, Lake Elsinore welcomed the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to The Diamond for a midweek three-game series.
The opening night of the series began with great excitement and anticipation as Los Angeles Dodgers star Yasiel Puig was making a rehab start at The Diamond. An uncommonly busy Tuesday saw over 3,000+ fans out to catch a glimpse of Puig up close. The Storm kept Puig's bat quiet, retiring him in all four at-bats, but couldn't get anything started offensively, falling 6-1.
Adrian Morejon, just 19-years-old, showed everyone why he's a Top 100 Prospect in all of Minor League Baseball. The Cuban left-hander went seven shutout innings, a new career high, while giving up just three hits and a walk in an 84-pitch outing. The southpaw collected seven strikeouts and didn't need much run support, earning the win in a 1-0 victory. Both Olivares and Kelvin Melean turned in two-hit performances, with Melean scoring the game's lone run on a passed ball in the seventh inning.
Rancho Cucamonga would take the rubber match on Thursday, though, thanks to a five-run third inning that included a grand slam. The Storm collected just five hits, including two by Potts and a home run by Brad Zunica, in a 6-2 loss.
The team is back at The Diamond on Tuesday, May 15 for a three-game home stand against the Inland Empire 66ers.
