BURLINGTON, VT --- The Auburn Doubledays scored three unearned runs in the top of the 14th inning off Vermont outfielder Anthony Churlin for a 5-2 victory over the Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at historic Centennial Field.

Churlin walked the first batter he faced in the 14th and two errors on ball hit by Omar Meregildo gave Auburn runners on second and third with no outs. Churlin got a groundout with the infield in and a strikeout to record two outs, but Branden Boggetto lined a two-run single to left and Oliver Ortiz an RBI double to right to plate the three runs.
Vermont had tied the game 2-2 in the eighth with two unearned runs of their own. Jarrett Costa and pinch hitter Greg Deichmann got the rally started with back-to-back singles. After a groundout advanced the runners to second and third, Costa scored on a passed ball by catcher Nic Perkins to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Then after a strikeout, Jordan Devencenzi hit a grounder to shortstop for what looked to be the final out of the inning, but Andres Martinez's throw to first base pulled Chance Shepard off the bag for error and allowed Deichmann to score with the tying run.
The Renegades had started the scoring in the fourth on a Armond Upshaw suicide squeeze bunt that scored Shepard, then added another run in the seventh on a Omar Meregildo solo home run for the 2-0 lead.
Auburn starter Matt DeRosier allowed just one hit, a Will Toffey line drive single to center with one out in the fifth, over six scoreless innings with three strikeouts, while Jake Barnett (2-0) no hits over the final two innings to earn the win. Boggetto, Ortiz and Shepard each had two hits for Auburn (10-15).
Vermont starter Parker Dunshee tossed three scoreless innings on two hits and one walk along with a season-high five strikeouts. In his four starts with the Lake Monsters, the sixth-round pick out of Wake Forest has given up just five hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts over 10 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Lake Monsters also got three hitless innings of relief from Branden Kelliher and two one-hit innings from Wandisson Charles as six pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts over the 14 innings. Toffey, Costa and Logan Farrar each had two hits for Vermont, which went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak overall and a seven-game home win streak for Vermont (16-9), which will host Auburn in the finale of the three-game series on Sunday evening at 5:05 pm.
