Fried leads Mississippi to 3-2 win over Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, AL -- Max Fried (1-2, 4.58) tossed seven scoreless innings, leading the Mississippi Braves (9-10) over the Montgomery Biscuits (10-8) in a 3-2 win Tuesday in Montgomery.
The starting pitchers, Fried for Mississippi and Jose Mujica (0-1, 1.42) for Montgomery, only allowed one hit each over the first seven innings.
Mississippi scored first in the fourth when Keith Curcio led off the inning with a walk, then advanced to second two batters later on a fielding error by second baseman Riley Unroe off the bat of Travis Demeritte. After a foul out by Carlos Franco, Curcio scored on a single to right field by Joey Meneses.
Tyler Brashears replaced Mujica to begin the eighth inning and Reed Harper led off with a single to third base. Armando Araiza moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. After a flyout by Curcio, Jared James hit his second homerun of the season over the right field wall and the Braves led 3-0.
Danny Reynolds replaced Fried going to the bottom of the eighth. The Biscuits led off the inning with a single to center field by Nick Ciuffo then Michael Russell doubled to left field putting runners at second and third. Joe McCarthy then doubled to right field, clearing the bases and cutting the Braves lead to 3-2.
After the Braves went down in order in the top of the ninth, Jesse Biddle (S, 1) came in to close out the Biscuits one, two, three in the bottom of the frame to pick up the save.
Meneses hit in the fourth, extended his team high hitting streak to seven games.
Fried picked up his first win of the season, shutting out the Biscuits allowing only one hit. He gave up one walk while striking out six. Mujica for the Biscuits, took his first loss after going seven innings with one hit and one unearned run, walking 1 and striking out five.
The Braves and Biscuits will play the final game of the series Wednesday night with RHP Mike Soroka (2-1, 1.62) getting the ball for Mississippi and RHP Yonny Chirinos (0-0, 2.61) on the mound for Montgomery. First pitch at 7:05 PM (CT).
