Former Atlanta Braves to visit Trustmark Park

M-Braves schedule three A-Braves Alumni Appearances

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves are proud to unveil the dates for several upcoming Atlanta Braves Alumni Appearances. Sid Bream and Chris Chambliss are scheduled to be at Trustmark Park on June 23. Marquis GrissomRyan Klesko and Leo Mazzone will appear on July 12, and Brian Jordan and Mark Wohlers will stop by on August 2.

 

The former A-Braves will throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the Mississippi Braves game each night. After stopping by the Braves radio booth, players will make their way down to the Extra Innings Team Store to sign autographs for fans in attendance.

 

Bream spent 11 years in the big leagues and played three seasons with the Atlanta Braves. The first baseman played in the 1991 and 1992 World Series. Bream is known for "The Slide" in game seven of the 1992 NLCS that won the game and sent the Braves to the World Series.

 

Chambliss is a former Greenville Braves Manager. Prior to his coaching career, Chambliss played in the big leagues from 1971 to 1988 and spent seven of those season in Atlanta (1980-86). The first baseman was selected as a 1976 MLB All-Star. He's a six-time World Series Champion. He was also named AL Rookie of the Year in 1971 and was awarded a Gold Glove in 1978.

 

A native of Atlanta, Grissom played with the Braves in 1995 and 1996. In his 17-year career, Grissom was selected as a NL All-Star twice (1993-94). He was a member of the Braves 1995 World Series team. Grissom is a four-time Gold Glove Award winner (1993-96), and he was named ALCS MVP in 1997. Grissom spent the 2009 season as first base coach for the Nationals.

 

Klesko spent 13 seasons in the Major Leagues, eight of those with the Atlanta Braves. Before making his debut with the A-Braves, Klesko played for the Double-A club in Greenville. The California native, won the World Series as a member of the 1995 Braves. He was also selected as a 2001 NL All-Star. With a career-high 34 long balls in 1996, Klesko posted at least 21 home runs in eight big league seasons.

 

Mazzone worked in the Atlanta Braves organization from 1979 to 2005. As a player, he debuted in 1967 and played seven seasons in the Giants system. He then spent three seasons in the Athletics organization. Mazzone served as Manager and Pitching Coach with the Greenville Braves. With the A-Braves, Mazzone coached all-star pitchers Tom Gavine, Greg Maddox and John Smoltz. He's also known for "rocking" back and forth on the dugout bench during games.

 

Jordan played 15 MLB seasons and three years in the NFL. The outfielder spent five total seasons with the Atlanta Braves (1999-2001, 2005-06) and was selected as a 1999 NL All-Star. For the A-Braves in the 1999 NLDS, Jordan hit .471 and had the game-winning double in the 12th inning of game three. He also drove in seven of Atlanta's 18 runs during the NLDS. The Braves traded Jordan with Odalis Perez to the Dodgers for Gary Sheffield in 2002. Jordan retired after the 2006 season and currently serves a pre-game analyst on Braves Live.  

 

Wohlers spent nine of 12 MLB seasons with the Atlanta Braves. The right-handed reliever was a member of the 1995 World Series team and was selected as a 1996 NL All-Star. Wohlers recorded 97 saves over three seasons (1995-97) and saved the 1-0 game-clinching victory in game six of the 1995 World Series. He went 39-29 in his career with a 3.97 ERA and 119 saves. Wohlers also played for the Double-A Greenville Braves before making it to the show.
