Loman Launches M-Braves to Win over Generals

Emerson Landoni goes 4-for-4, Loman's two-run blast in 5th helps Braves pull away
April 13, 2014

Jackson, TN - The Mississippi Braves' bats came alive on Saturday night in West Tennessee as they soared to a 5-2 win over the Jackson Generals at the Ballpark at Jackson.

Emerson Landoni and Seth Loman were the ring leaders for the Braves (4-5). Landoni reached all five times at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, while Loman blasted a two-run homer to center in the fifth to help Mississippi pull away.

On the hill, top Braves prospect JR Graham had another strong outing, throwing 4 2/3 shutout frames, allowing four hits and a walk. The win went to John Cornely (1-0), who threw two innings of scoreless, hitless relief on the night.

The Braves smacked around Generals starter Cam Hobson for four extra base hits in his six frames.

The scoring started in the third when Gustavo Nunez singled and Emerson Landoni drove him in with a double down the right field line.

Then in the fifth, Matt Lipka drew a walk to lead off and moved to third on a Landoni single. Joe Leonard hit a sacrifice fly to right and Lipka scored to make it 2-0. Then Loman sent a 3-1 pitch over the centerfield wall for his third home run of the year, a two-run blast to make it 4-0 Mississippi.

Hobson (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out one and walked two.

The Generals (5-4) wouldn't go down without a fight, clubbing three doubles in the sixth inning. Ketel Marte and Jamal Austin hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning for their first run, then Dan Paolini doubled with two out, scoring Austin to make it 4-2.

In the seventh, the Braves got one of those runs right back for insurance. Landoni was hit by a pitch, moving to third when Loman singled. That set up a David Rohm fielder's choice for an RBI, putting the Braves up 5-2.

Shae Simmons picked up his third save of the year in as many tries, giving up just a hit in the final frame to seal the win.

Now the M-Braves have a chance to take the series with Sunday's rubber match beginning at 6:05 PM CT. Mississippi will throw right-hander David Bromberg (0-1, 4.91), while the Generals counter with 19-year-old righty Victor Sanchez (0-0, 3.60).

Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 5:30 PM CT on 103.9 WYAB or online at MississippiBraves.com and TuneIn Radio.
