Lookouts defeat M-Braves 5-4 to even series

The M-Braves are one game back in the South Division with eight to play

PEARL, MS -- The Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Mississippi Braves 5-4 at Trustmark Park Friday night to even the series at one game apiece. With the loss, the M-Braves lose a half game in the South Division standings and trail Mobile by one game with eight games to play in the first half.

 

Mississippi (35-26) scored four runs on nine hits. Chattanooga (25-37) plated five runs on 15 hits. For the Lookouts, Ryan Adams and Scott Schebler each collected three hits at the plate. O'Koyea Dickson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

 

The Lookouts jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Darnell Sweeney singled and took second on a missed catch error by the shortstop, allowing Adams to reach first. Dickson followed with a RBI-single. Daniel Mayora then singled to drive in Adams. Dickson was thrown out at third on the play. Schebler then doubled to put runners at the corners before Noel Cuevas drove home Mayora on a sacrifice bunt.

 

Mississippi responded in the bottom of the inning to make it a 3-1 game. Gustavo Nunez reached on an error by the shortstop. Seth Loman followed with a single to right, driving home Nunez for the Braves first run of the game.

 

David Rohm led off the second with a double and Kyle Kubitza singled to put runners at the corners. Braeden Schlehuber grounded out, driving home Rohm to make it a 3-2 game.

 

Adams singled and Dickson blasted a two-run homer in the third to extend the Lookouts lead to 5-2.

 

Kubitza and Emerson Landoni both walked and Schlehuber singled to load the bases in the fourth. Mitch Atkins grounded into a force out, allowing Kubitza to score and cut the Lookouts lead to 5-3. A Mycal Jones ground-rule double plated Landoni to make it 5-4.

 

Ryan Weber (1-2) took the loss. He started and worked four innings for the M-Braves, giving up five runs, three earned, on 10 hits including a home run.

 

Juan Gonzalez (1-3) tossed two frames and walk two batters to pick up the win. Tyson Brummett tossed four innings but was not eligible for the win. He gave up four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four. Josh Ravin (S, 1) worked the final inning to pick up the save.

 

In game three of this five-game series, M-Braves right-hander J.R. Graham (0-3, 5.27) takes on Lookouts lefty Chris Reed (3-3, 3.18). First pitch is slated for 6:00 PM. Gates open at 4:30 PM.
