M-Braves Drop Game One of Championship Series

Tyler O'Neill smacks go-ahead two-run double in 8th

Jackson, TN - Tyler O'Neill's two-run double in the eighth broke a 3-3 tie, and the Jackson Generals beat the Mississippi Braves 6-4 in game one of the Southern League Championship Series Monday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.

With two in scoring position, Tyler O'Neill pulled a two-strike pitch down the left field line to break the 3-3 tie in the eighth. The reigning Southern League MVP got the go-ahead knock off reliever Akeel Morris. Dario Pizzano added an RBI double for a 6-3 lead.

Brandon Sisk (2-0) got the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, while Morris took the loss allowing three runs on two hits over one inning.

The Braves struck first off Generals starter Andrew Moore in the third. Dylan Moore singled with two out, and Mallex Smith drove him home with an RBI double.

Jackson bounced back in the fourth with two runs to take the lead. Braves starter Michael Mader walked Ryan Casteel to lead off, and Leon Landry drove him in with a triple. Two batters later, Adam Law drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

In the fifth, they added another when O'Neill and Casteel singled, Landry reached on an error and Tyler Marlette hit an RBI single for a 3-1 lead.

The Braves came back to tie it with runs in the sixth and seventh. In the sixth, Carlos Franco doubled with two out and scored on a Joey Meneses single. In the seventh, Johan Camargo and Moore singled, and Mallex Smith grounded out to bring home Camargo from third to tie it 3-3.

The Braves and Generals continue the best-of-five series with game two on Tuesday night at the Ballpark at Jackson, with first pitch set for 6:05 PM CT. Left-hander Sean Newcomb (8-7, 3.86) takes the ball for the Braves against Generals right-hander Brett Ash.
