Smokies walk-off, defeat Braves 8-7

Eight-run bottom of the ninth gives Smokies come-from-behind win

KODAK, TN -- Tennessee (3-4) scored eight runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to end the Braves three-game winning streak and even the series at 1-1.
The Mississippi Braves (4-3) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with an RBI double by Connor Lien, scoring Joey Meneses from first base. In the second inning, the Braves scored another run on back-to-back doubles by Luis Valenzuela and Travis Demeritte giving Mississippi a 2-0 lead.
That's all starting pitcher Kolby Allard (0-1) needed for his part of the game. Allard pitched five shutout innings, walking two while striking out three.
Jesse Biddle (H,2) entered in the sixth inning and threw 2.1 scoreless frames, walking one and striking out three. Evan Phillips (H,1) replaced Biddle with one out in the eighth and retired the final two batters on a foul out and a strike out.
The Braves took the game to the ninth inning leading 3-0 and scored an additional 4 runs. Meneses led off the inning with a walk then Keith Curcio reached on a fielders choice, forcing Meneses out at second. Lien hit his second double of the game putting runners at second and third. After a strikeout, Curcio scored on a passed ball making the score 4-0 Braves. Dylan Moore walked to place runners at the corners before Jared James hit a towering three-run shot onto the Porch in right field extending Mississippi's lead to 7-0 going to the bottom of the ninth.
The Smokies opened their half of the inning with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a single to load the bases with no outs. Erick Castillo singled to center, plating two runs. A sacrifice fly brought home a third run, making the score 7-3. After a fly-out and two more singles, Tennessee had the bases loaded with two outs. Danny Reynolds (BS,1)(L,0-1) entered the game to relieve Phillips. Cael Brockmeyer walked to bring home Castillo. Jeffrey Baez drew another walk to make it a two-run game. Trey Martin then doubled to right, tying the game at 7-7. Carlos Penalver then singled to left to complete the eight-run comeback for the Smokies and secure the win.
The Mississippi Braves and Tennessee Smokies play game three of this five-game series Friday night at 7:00 PM (ET). Mississippi will send RHP Matt Withrow (0-0) out to face RHP Trevor Clifton (1-0) for Tennessee.
