Cease was injured trying to cover third base when teammate
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-hander ranks second in the Midwest League with 54 strikeouts, and he's done it in seven fewer innings than Dayton's
Cease didn't pitch in 2014 after injuring his elbow during his senior season in high school and undergoing Tommy John surgery. Chicago still gave him a $1.5 million signing bonus.
Cease posted a 2.63 ERA in 11 games, including eight starts, for the Rookie-level Cubs in 2015, and a 2.22 ERA in 12 starts with Class A Short Season Eugene last season.
