M-Braves Drop Friday Night Contest to Jumbo Shrimp 10-3

M-Braves record a season high, three home runs despite loss

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (30-42) dropped Friday night's contest to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (29-41) by a final score of 10-3. Despite the loss, the M-Braves recorded three home runs in the game, courtesy of Connor Lien, Alay Lago and Tyler Marlette, a season high for the club in 2018.  
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp bats caught fire early in Friday night's game as they plated five runs in the top of the second inning. Brian Schales started things off by reaching on a fielder's choice which allowed John Norwood to score. Pitcher, Max Duval produced the second run of the inning after laying down a sacrifice bunt, allowing Joe Dunand to score. Monte Harrison reached base safely on a throwing error two batters later. Schales and Duval both scored on the throwing error. Isan Díaz finished off the inning by doubling on a sharp fly ball to center field, scoring Harrison.

Lien got the M-Braves on the board in the bottom of the second inning when he launched a line drive home run deep over the left field wall, his fourth of the 2018 season. The M-Braves collected two more runs in the bottom of the third inning via the long ball after Lago and Marlette each homered, making the score 5-3.
Jacksonville picked up three insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning on RBI singles from Schales, Sharif Othman, and Brian Miller, extending their lead 9-3. Peter O'Brien added to Jacksonville's total in the top of the sixth inning after homering on a fly ball to center field, giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 10-3 lead.
Duval (2-6, 6.43) earned the win and M-Braves starter, Bryse Wilson (1-5, 5.83) suffered the loss. Duvall pitched 5.0 innings allowing 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, and 3 HR while recording 4 K's. Wilson tossed 2.0 innings and allowed 4 H, 5 R, and an ER. Wilson also struck out three Jumbo Shrimp batters.  
The M-Braves and the Jumbo Shrimp will face each other for the third consecutive night when the two teams meet at Trustmark Park on Saturday night for game three of the six-game series. Saturday night's first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CST.) LHP Michael Mader (2-2, 3.18) is expected to start Saturday night's contest for the M-Braves. Mader's counterpart on the mound will be Jacksonville RHP Kolton Mahoney (3-3, 3.25.)
Promotions for Saturday night's contest will include Trustmark Super Sensational Saturday presented by Trustmark Park ($10,000 Dash for Cash and Post-game Fireworks.) The Mississippi Braves will also be giving away Uncut Baseball Card Sheets featuring various members of the 2018 team. Fans may pick up an Uncut Baseball Card Sheet at the gates as they exit the game.
