BILOXI, MS - Biloxi's Zack Brown was one strike away from a no-hitter on Friday night, but M-Braves third baseman Daniel Lockhart blooped a double to shallow center for the first hit of the game. The Shuckers (40-28) and Brown went on to record the final out and beat the M-Braves (28-40) 5-0 on Friday to secure the first half title in the Southern League's South Division. The M-Braves have still not been no-hit after 1,860 all-time games.

Brown was perfect through seven innings, retiring the first 21 M-Braves batters. Tyler Marlette opened the eighth inning by sending a ball to deep right-center field that was dropped by right fielder Trent Grisham. Grisham and centerfielder Corey Ray collided allowing the ball to fall out of the glove of Grisham. Brown retired the next three M-Braves to keep the no-hit bid intact.
In the ninth, Brown got Luis Marté to ground out to third - pinch-hitter Taylor Murphy went down on strikes leading to Lockhart's bloop double just out of the reach of the diving Ray.
Brown's complete game shutout stole the shine from another quality start by Bryse Wilson. The 20-year-old M-Braves starter allowed two first-inning runs but yielded just two hits from the second inning through the sixth. Wilson allowed just two runs on four hits over six innings with three walks and seven strikeouts. Wilson's quality start is the third straight by M-Braves starters after Wright's on Wednesday and Toussaint's on Thursday.
The Shuckers pushed their lead to 5-0 in the seventh inning when Nick Ramirez hit a three-run home run off M-Braves reliever Sean McLaughlin. The All-Star relief pitcher has 96 all-time homers and was a first baseman until last season.
The M-Braves and Shuckers will continue the final series of the first half on Saturday with game four of the five-game set. First pitch is at 6:35 pm with RHP Enderson Franco (2-4, 4.01)) starting for the M-Braves against Biloxi LHP Kodi Medeiros (4-3, 3.88).
The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park, June 21-26, for a six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to open the second-half of the 2018 season. For tickets or more information fans can visit mississippibraves.com or call 888-BRAVES4.
