MADISON, Ala. – After a couple of tough back-to-back losses, the Biscuits (28-29) rebounded and took down the Rocket City Trash Pandas (28-30), 5-3, on Saturday night at Toyota Field.

Cooper Criswell (6-4) started on the hill for the Trash Pandas and worked a scoreless top of the first, despite allowing a single to Miles Mastrobuoni and then uncorking a wild pitch. Peyton Battenfield (3-0) was on the mound on the other side for the Biscuits, and the right-hander retired Luis Aviles Jr. on a groundout for the first out of the game before surrendering a solo home run to David MacKinnon whose seventh round-tripper of the season put Rocket City up early, 1-0.

Cal Stevenson would tie the game at one with a solo shot of his own—also to left field—in the top of the second to make it a 1-1 game. Criswell would settle down and strike out the side in the top of the fourth before Battenfield did the same in the bottom of the fourth to keep it a 1-1 contest.

In the top of the fifth, Jim Haley socked a solo home run to left off Criswell to hand the Biscuits their first lead of the game at 2-1. The round-tripper was Haley’s sixth of the season. A Jonathan Aranda RBI-double and Stevenson’s second home run of the game—a two-run blast to left—increased the Biscuits lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth.

Mitch Nay’s 14th home run of the season pulled one back for the Trash Pandas in the bottom of the sixth against Battenfield, who struck out a season-high 10. Then an RBI-double into the left-center field gap off the bat of Orlando Martinez made it 5-3 in the seventh.

The Trash Pandas loaded the bases against Alex Valverde with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but Chris Muller came to the rescue and got Torii Hunter Jr. to fly out to left and Aviles Jr. to strike out swinging the end the threat. Muller then proceeded to work a clean ninth for his fourth Biscuit save, sealing the win.

The Biscuits will go for the series win over the Trash Pandas on Sunday when Tobias Myers (4-3) faces David Daniel (0-0) at 6:35 PM CT.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a 12-game home stand starting on a Golden Biscuits Tuesday, with the first six-game series against the Biloxi Shuckers starting at 6:35 PM CT. The rest of the series will include a Military Wednesday presented by WOW! on Wednesday, July 14; Wizard Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, July 15; Korean Heritage Night with Jersey Auction supporting A-KEEP on Friday, July 16; 2K Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 17; and a Kids Jersey Giveaway presented by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama on Sunday, July 18.
