MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Biscuits (23-25) pitchers struck out a season-high 17 batters and the Butter and Blue took down the first-place Mississippi Braves (30-20), 6-3, on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Tobias Myers (4-3) made his seventh start of the season, and looked sharp early on, retiring the M-Braves in order in the top of the first and striking out Trey Harris and Drew Lugbauer—both swinging. Mississippi starter Spencer Strider (0-1), who threw 30 pitches in the first inning, then balked, which brought Xavier Edwards home from third with the game’s first run and the Biscuits led 1-0 at the end of one.

Myers continued to pitch well, striking out seven batters through the right-hander’s first three scoreless innings. Myers retired the first two batters in the top of the fourth, but then allowed a triple to C.J. Alexander and then an RBI-double to Jalen Miller that knotted the game at one, before Cal Stevenson made a Jim Edmonds-like over-the-shoulder catch in center to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Biscuits got a couple of runners on for Moises Gomez who blooped a two-out, two-run single to shallow right field to hand Montgomery the lead back at 3-1, chasing Strider from the game. Myers continued to cruise, striking out a season-high nine batters through five innings. Myers served up a solo homer to Shea Langeliers to make it 3-2 before Joel Peguero came out of the bullpen and worked a scoreless sixth and seventh.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Biscuits got a couple more runners on before Ford Proctor swatted a two-out, two-run single of his own to extend the Montgomery lead to 5-2 against reliever Matt Withrow. Jonathan Aranda hit his fifth home run of the season off the batter’s eye in the seventh to make it 6-2, before Braden Shewmake hit an RBI-triple off Chris Muller, who made his Double-A debut by striking out two, in the eighth to make it 6-3.

Alex Valverde struck out the M-Braves side in the ninth to close things out en route to the righty’s third save of the season.

The Biscuits will try to back it back-to-back victories on Thursday when Tommy Romero (0-0) clashes with Hayden Deal (1-2) at 6:35 PM CT when there will be a Summer Tank Top Giveaway by ALFA Insurance.
