MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Biscuits (10-16) scored six runs in the second and never looked back, as Shane Baz (1-4) notched his first Double-A victory, 9-6, over the Biloxi Shuckers (11-16) on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Baz made his sixth start of the season for the Biscuits, and looked good early, pitching a scoreless first to match Shuckers’ starter Leo Crawford (1-2), who did the same thing.

After Baz worked a scoreless top of the second, the Biscuits went off on Crawford, ripping off the six runs against the lefty starting with an RBI-double by Jim Haley. Later in the inning, Jake Palomaki knocked in two with a single to right, and then Cal Stevenson flexed out a three-run homer to right after a 10-pitch at-bat to make it 6-0. Thursday was Stevenson’s second-straight game with a home run.

The Biscuits would add another run in the third courtesy of a Palomaki RBI-single as Baz continued to cruise. The right-hander retired 11-consecutive batters between the first and fifth and struck out eight over five dominant, shutout innings.

Alex Valverde would allow the Shuckers back in the game though, surrendering four runs in the seventh on a Cam Devanney sac fly, a Mitch Longo RBI-single, and a Brice Turang two-run single to make it 7-4, before Jordan Brink quashed the rally by striking out Jamie Westbrook.

The Biscuits would tack on two more runs in the seventh thanks to Seaver Whalen’s RBI-double and Haley’s RBI-single, and the Shuckers plated two more of their own in the ninth on a pair of RBI-groundouts.

The Biscuits will try to keep the momentum going on Friday when LHP Michael Plassmeyer (0-1) takes on LHP Nick Bennett (1-0) at 6:35 PM CT with a Chicken & Baker Bobblehead Giveaway presented by Capital Trailways.

The rest of the series will include 90s Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday June 5; and a Rays Day Poster Giveaway with Lil' Crumbs Kids Club presented by Go Fish Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, June 6.
