MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Biscuits (30-29) climbed over .500 for the first time since Opening Day on May 5 with a convincing 12-3 win over the Biloxi Shuckers (19-42) on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits have now won seven in a row against the Shuckers.

Faustino Carrera started for the Biscuits as an opener in what was the lefty’s first game since June 26 after going on the Injured List with a shoulder issue. The lefty allowed a solo home run to lead-off hitter Garrett Mitchell to make it 1-0 Shuckers, and then surrendered another to the number three hitter Alexander Palma, who hit one over the moving train in left field and made it 2-0. Carrera struck out the final two batters to end the first.

Leo Crawford was on the other side for Biloxi, and the southpaw worked a one-two-three bottom of the first. Tommy Romero (1-0) then came on for Carrera in the top of the second, and worked a scoreless inning to begin his night. The Biscuits used a couple of walks and a couple of wild pitches by Crawford to scratch across their first run in the bottom of the second scoring Ruben Cardenas from third to make it a 2-1 contest.

Bubba Derby came on for Crawford in the bottom of the fourth after the lefty struck out four over three innings of one-run ball, and the right-hander struck out Jonathan Aranda to begin his night before serving up a solo blast to left to Cardenas to tie the game at two.

Romero retired the first 11 batters he faced before allowing a solo home run to left to Gabriel Garcia, who made it 3-2 Shuckers in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Jim Haley got in on the fun and hit a solo blast of his own to knot things back up at three. At one point during the fifth, all five of the game’s hits were solo home runs.

The Biscuits would break the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run single by Jake Palomaki and a throwing error by Shuckers left fielder Mitch Longo that made it 6-3 Montgomery. A wild pitch, a Garrett Whitley solo homer, and an RBI-single by Aranda later in the inning capped off a six-run sixth and put the Biscuits ahead, 9-3.

The Biscuits would add three more runs in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI-triple from Haley, a sac fly from Palomaki, and another RBI-single by Aranda to increase the lead to 12-3. Romero finished the game with seven strikeouts and notched his first decision of the year after nine starts and two relief appearances. Joel Peguero also worked 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Dalton Moats a scoreless ninth.

The Biscuits will try to make it three-straight wins on Thursday when Easton McGee (0-0) faces Noah Zavolas (2-5) on Wizard Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway at 6:35 PM CT.

The rest of the series will include Korean Heritage Night with Jersey Auction supporting A-KEEP on Friday, July 16; 2K Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 17; and a Kids Jersey Giveaway presented by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama on Sunday, July 18.
