MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Biscuits (12-16) made it interesting late, but ultimately hung on to a 7-6 victory over the Biloxi Shuckers (11-18) on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium to secure their first series win of 2021.

Nathan Witt opened for the second time as a Biscuit, but the right-hander struggled after retiring the first batter, allowing back-to-back walks and then a two-run double to Lucas Erceg to make it 2-0 Shuckers in the first inning.

Jesus Castillo (0-1) made his seventh career start against the Biscuits and allowed a two-run home run to Moises Gomez on a rocket over the left field wall that knotted things at two in the bottom of the first.

Witt faced the minimum in the second before handing the reins to Tobias Myers (2-1), and Rene Pinto’s mammoth second home run of the season to left gave the Biscuits their first lead of the night at 3-2. Joey Roach’s first RBI as a Biscuit—an RBI-double into right-center a little later in the inning—made it a 4-2 game.

Myers would work a one-two-three third before surrendering an RBI-single to David Fry in the fourth to pull the Shuckers within one at 4-3. But Roach cranked his first Biscuit home run to right in the fourth to make it 6-3, before Ryan Aguilar responded with a homer of his own for Biloxi in the fifth to make it 6-4.

Myers ended up going five innings of two-run ball, striking out five for the win. The Biscuits added their seventh run in the sixth thanks to an error at third by Biloxi’s Cam Devanney.

Ivan Pelaez came on to work a scoreless eighth, but the lefty allowed a couple runs in the ninth as the Shuckers mounted a comeback. With runners at first and second and two outs, Pelaez finally got Payton Henry to fly out to right to end the game and is now tied for the Double-A South lead in saves with seven.

The Biscuits will try to make it four in a row when RHP Tommy Romero (1-1) takes on LHP Ethan Small (1-1) at 3:33 PM CT when there will be a Rays Day Poster Giveaway with Lil' Crumbs Kids Club presented by Go Fish Alabama and Bark in the Park.

The Biscuits will remain at home next week and open up another six-game home stand with the Birmingham Barons beginning on a Golden Biscuits Tuesday on June 8. The rest of the series will include a Military Wednesday presented by WOW! on June 9; Sweet to Teachers Night with a T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, June 10; A Reversible Bucket Hat Giveaway presented by Gipson’s Tire Pros on Friday, June 11; Family Faith Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 12; and a Toothbrush Holder Giveaway by Dentistry for Children on Sunday, June 13.
