MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The Biscuits (35-30) got a strong start from Easton McGee (1-0) and just enough offense to fend off the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (37-32) in a 5-3 win on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

McGee made his eighth start of the season for the Biscuits, and the right-hander looked sharp early, recording a strikeout in a one-two-three first inning. In the bottom of the first, Xavier Edwards was called out for batters interference on a grounder to Pensacola starting pitcher Jake Eder (3-4) and a throw to first, which got Biscuits’ hitting coach Jamie Nelson thrown out of the game.

McGee then faced the minimum in the top of the second, before Eder did the same in the bottom of the second, striking out a pair—both looking. McGee kept the Wahoos off the board in the top of the third, and then Eder walked Chris Betts and Garrett Whitley in the bottom of the third. That brought up Edwards, and with two outs and on a two-strike pitch, the Biscuits second baseman rolled a two-run double down the left field line to put Montgomery ahead, 2-0.

Jim Haley hit a single to lead-off the bottom of the fourth, and then Niko Hulsizer cracked an RBI-double into the right-center field alley to make it a 3-0 ballgame. McGee walked a couple in the top of the fifth, but still went five scoreless frames to keep it 3-0.

Eder was removed for Adam McInvale in the bottom of the fifth, and the righty served up a two-run home run to right by Jonathan Aranda to put the Biscuits up 5-0. Nick Fortes’ RBI-double off Biscuits reliever Mikey York finally got the Wahoos on the board at 5-1 in the sixth. Ivan Pelaez came on for York in the seventh and allowed a couple of runs to make it a 5-3 game.

Faustino Carrera worked a scoreless eighth and then Joel Peguero came on in the ninth to notch his first Double-A save, sealing the 5-3 win.

The Biscuits will try win their ninth game in 10 tries on Friday when Kenny Rosenberg (0-1) squares off against Zach McCambley (0-1) on Comic Book Themed Jersey Auction Night at 6:35 PM CT.

The rest of the series will include Christmas in July with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 24; And Lil' Crumbs Kids Club presented by Go Fish Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, July 25.
