The game was tied through four innings before the big fifth inning rally. Kenny Piper led off the inning with a triple to the left-field corner, the Biscuits first triple of the season. Tanner Murray brought him in with a liner up the middle. Heriberto Hernandez served an RBI single to left field, and Nick Schnell ripped a double off the first-base bag to score two runs. Tennessee helped with two errors in the inning as part of a four-error night.
Piper finished a homer shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a triple, a double, and a single. Hernandez went 3-for-5 with three singles and two RBI. Schnell extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double and a single.
Ben Peoples went 4 ⅔ innings in his third start of the season and allowed a run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Sean Hunley improved to 2-0 with 2 ⅓ innings of shutout relief.
The series finale is Sunday afternoon at Smokies Stadium. Cole Wilcox will make the start for Montgomery while Cade Horton will start for Tennessee. The first pitch is at 1:00 pm CT. Fans can listen on Sports Radio 740, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
