Mateo Strong, Biscuits Shutout Braves
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Victor Mateo (2-2) picked up his second-straight win as the Biscuits (9-6) scored five runs after a two-out error by shortstop Gustavo Nunez in the fourth inning during a 5-0 win against the Mississippi Braves (6-10) Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
With the game scoreless and a runner on second with two outs, Willie Argo hit a soft groundball to Nunez. The throw to first was high, allowing Argo to race through the bag safely. After a walk to Jeff Malm, the Biscuits took advantage of the error with a two-run single from Luke Maile, followed by a two-run double by Jake Hager and finally an RBI-single from Ryan Brett to plate five runs off of David Bromberg (0-2).
Mateo retired the first eight batters he faced before Nunez tripled for the first Braves-hit of the game. Mississippi only managed three hits off Mateo, while the right-hander tossed seven-scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Maile and Hager both finished 2-for-4 with two RBI while Brett also finished with two hits. The Biscuits collected ten hits in their fourth-straight win.
Game two is Sunday afternoon at 2:05. RH Dylan Floro will head to the mound while the Braves will throw RH Aaron Northcraft. Both pitchers are in search of their first win of the season.
