Montgomery Biscuits Announce Design a Hat Contest Winner

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Montgomery Biscuits announced the winner of the Design a Hat Contest on Monday. Jesse Alkire, an artist based in Chicago, submitted the "Biscuit Lid" design which received an overwhelming amount of votes from across the country.

The Design a Hat Contest put the design of a new Montgomery Biscuits fashion hat in the hands of the fans. Submissions were accepted for two weeks, with the Top 5 designs sent out across social media platforms for voting.

Jesse Alkire's "Biscuit Lid" immediately received attention from fans. The hat features orange and yellow layers resembling a biscuit, with butter separating the layers. Alkire described the hat as "baseball's first hat design fresh baked to look like a fluffy biscuit." The layering also resembles the classic pillbox style hat, a throwback style popularized in the early 20th century and again in the 1970's.

 

The "Biscuit Lid" will not be worn on the field by the team, but will be available for sale at biscuitsbaseball.com and in the Biscuit Basket retail store in spring of 2017 with a preorder opportunity beginning shortly.

 The Montgomery Biscuits, class AA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays is a Minor League Baseball member of the Southern League. 2017 will be the Biscuit's fourteenth season of operation at Riverwalk Stadium, the centerpiece of Downtown Montgomery, AL located at 200 Coosa Street.
