BILOXI, Mis. – The Biscuits (40-32) saw a 2-0 lead slip away in the sixth inning in an 8-3 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers (27-47) on Thursday night at MGM Park.

Jesus Castillo (3-5) who entered Thursday 0-8 lifetime against the Biscuits, started for the Shuckers and allowed back-to-back lead-off singles to Xavier Edwards and Jonathan Aranda to begin the game. The righty settled down though, and got a flyout and a 3-6-1 double play to end the threat.

Southpaw Jacob Lopez was making his Double-A debut on the other side for the Biscuits, and the 23-year-old worked a one-two-three bottom of the first against the Shuckers. Castillo then set the Biscuits down in order in the top of the second, notching a pair of strikeouts. Lopez then struck out the side in a scoreless bottom of the second.

The Biscuits would finally crack Castillo again in the top of the third when Moises Gomez climbed in and slugged a missile off the light pole in left-center field to make it 1-0 Montgomery. Lopez struck out the side again in the third to run his total to six over his first three scoreless innings.

Lopez picked up his seventh strikeout in the fourth, and then Jim Haley launched his 10th home run of the season off Castillo in the fifth to double the Biscuits lead to 2-0. Lopez was lifted for Chris Muller (1-1) in the bottom of the sixth, and the right-hander served up a three-run homer to Mitch Longo to put the Shuckers up 3-2. A few batters later, Chad Spanberger went the other way for a solo home run of his own and increased that Biloxi lead to 4-2.

In the seventh, the Shuckers would pad their lead with a solo home run to left by Gabriel Garcia off Jordan Brink, and then a two-run single by Longo to make it a 7-2 game. A sac fly by Alexander Palma against Faustino Carrera made it 8-2. The Biscuits would pull a run back in the eighth on a Niko Hulsizer RBI-double. Hulsizer now has 16 RBIs in 14 games as a Biscuit.

The Biscuits will try to rebound against Shuckers in Friday’s doubleheader beginning at 5:35 PM CT.
