‘Birds Shutout by FredNats in Series Finale

SALISBURY, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds fell in the rubber game of their series with the Fredericksburg Nationals 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
For the third straight game it was the Nationals (2-1) who struck first against the Shorebirds (1-2).
In the third inning, Jacob Young tripled with one away and then scored on a Jeremy De La Rosa RBI groundout to start the scoring.
Yoander Rivero led off the fifth with a single and then advanced to second on an errant pickoff attempt. Rivero then moved to third on a groundout and scored on a De La Rosa single to make it 2-0 Nationals.
Fredericksburg busted the game open in the eighth, turning three walks and a single into four runs thanks to three run-scoring wild pitches and an RBI triple from Young.
One more run came across for the FredNats in the ninth on a run scoring double play to cement the score at 7-0.
Karlo Seijas (1-0) twirled four shutout innings out of the bullpen for the win for Fredericksburg. Seijas struck out three while walking just one and allowing two hits.
Juan De Los Santos (0-1) suffered the loss for the Shorebirds after allowing one run on one hit and three walks, striking out five, in 3.2 innings.
After an off-day on Monday, the Shorebirds hit the road for the first time this season to kick off a six-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats on Tuesday, April 12. First pitch from Lynchburg is slated for 6:30 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning on theshorebirds.com at 6:15 p.m. with Sam Jellinek on the call. MiLB.TV coverage will be provided by Lynchburg.
