Wappingers Falls, NY (July 26, 2022) – It was a night to forget for the Cyclones as they fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades by the score of 10-2, snapping Brooklyn’s five-game winning streak. The Renegades scored six in the first inning against, largely against Brooklyn starter Junior Santos (4-10), and never looked back.
Trey Sweeney led off the game with a single and Anthony Siegler followed with a double and the ‘Gades were off and running. Cooper Bowman then worked a one-out walk before T.J. Rumfield added an RBI single that made it 2-0. After Santos got Tyler Hardman to pop out on the infield, Grant Richardson hit a three-run home run to push the Hudson Valley lead to 5-0.
That was the end of the night for Junior Santos, but reliever Cam Opp didn’t fare much better. The southpaw allowed an unearned run in the first and four more in the third to round out the Renegades scoring. Justin Courtney tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief for Brooklyn while striking out six and Brendan Hardy tossed 2.0 shutout frames to
Brooklyn’s offense came by way of an RBI single from Jose Mena in the second and a Jose Peroza RBI single in the top of the ninth, but it was a largely uneventful evening for the Brooklyn bats. They struck out 12 times and went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
The Renegades and Cyclones will continue their series on Wednesday evening at 7:05 PM. Brooklyn will send RHP Luis Moreno to the mound.
