Lakewood, NJ (August 27, 2022) – The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by the score of 8-3 on Saturday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. Daniel Juarez (1-0), Sammy Tavarez and Daison Acosta combined to toss 4.1 shutout innings of relief for Brooklyn and the ‘Clones pounded out 13 hits in a winning effort.

For the fifth straight game, it was the Cyclones who scored first with Brooklyn taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. Jose Peroza singled to start the frame and Stanley Consuegra and Jose Mena worked back-to-back walks to load the bases with nobody out. William Lugo took advantage of the scoring chance with a sac fly to deep center field that gave Brooklyn the early lead.

The lead would double in the fourth when Jose Mena singled and Jaylen Palmer had a two-out, ground-rule double that put a pair of runners into scoring position and with Shervyen Newton batting, BlueClaws pitcher Matt Russell uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Mena to trot home and extend the Brooklyn lead to 2-0.

The lead would double again in the fifth when Matt Rudick singled and Alex Ramirez doubled to start the frame. Jose Peroza would plate Rudick with an RBI groundout and then with two outs, Stanley Consuegra hit a pop up on the infield that was dropped by BlueClaws third baseman Freylin Minyety, allowing Ramirez to score to make it 4-0.

Dominic Hamel made the start for Brooklyn and cruised through the first 4.0 innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. The Brooklyn righthander struck out Jared Carr and got Anthony Quirion to fly out to start the inning but Arturto De Freitas singled to start a two-out rally. Hamel would then walk the next three batters he faced to force home a run before Baron Radcliff singled to center to plate two more runs and trim Brooklyn’s lead to just a skinny run at 4-3. Daniel Juarez came on in relief and after walking Kendall Simmons to re-load the bases, he got Rixon Wingrove to fly out to centerfield to end the frame with Brooklyn still in front.

After a scoreless sixth, Brooklyn tacked on a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from JT Schwartz that made it 5-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jersey Shore had a golden opportunity to get even when they loaded the bases with one out. But Daison Acosta came on in relief of Sammy Tavarez and struck out Anthony Quirion and Arturo De Freitas to end the inning and leave the bases full.

Brooklyn opened the flood gates in the top of the ninth, as back-to-back RBI singles from Alex Ramirez and JT Schwartz plated a pair before a bases loaded walk of Stanley Consuegra forced home another run to make the final score 8-3.

Brooklyn will look to complete the six-game sweep of the Jersey Shore Blue Claws on Sunday afternoon when LHP Keyshawn Askew makes the start for the ‘Clones. Game time is 1:05 PM.
