Jimenez Goes Deep, but Cyclones Fall to Renegades, 7-3

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (August 29, 2026) — 3B Antonio Jimenez blasted his first home run since returning from Single-A St. Lucie and reached base twice, but the Hudson Valley Renegades powered two homers of their own to defeat the Brooklyn Cyclones, 7-3, on Saturday evening at Heritage Financial Park.

With the loss, Brooklyn (30-28, 55-68) is now four games back of Greensboro for the final playoff spot in the South Atlantic League North Division with seven gamedays remaining in the season.

The Cyclones struck first, scratching across a run in the first inning.

SS Elian Peña led off the contest with a walk and stole second base before advancing to third on a CF Trey Snyder single. 1B Ronald Hernandez followed with a ground out to first, bringing home Peña and giving Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.

The RBI was the 100th of Hernandez’s Cyclones career, making him just the third player in franchise history to reach the 100-RBI plateau, joining OF Stanley Consuegra and INF William Lugo.

Hudson Valley (34-25, 64-59) quickly erased the deficit with three runs in the bottom of the first.

SS Jackson Lovich reached on a one-out infield single before coming around to score from first on 1B Kyle West’s RBI double off the left-field fence. With two outs, 1B David McCann launched a two-run homer to left-center field to put the Renegades in front, 3-1. The blast marked the 22-year-old’s second home run of the series — and seventh with Hudson Valley.

The Cyclones pulled within one in the third.

Snyder ignited a rally with a leadoff single to right and promptly swiped second base. After a walk, a fielder’s choice, and a stolen base put runners at second and third, DH Colin Houck drove in Snyder with a ground out to third, making it a 3-2 contest.

Hudson Valley answered again in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Lovich hammered the second pitch he saw off the batter’s eye in straightaway center for a solo home run. The Overland Park, Kan. native’s fourth High-A homer extended Hudson Valley’s lead to 4-2.

Jimenez responded with a long ball of his own in the fourth.

Leading off the inning, the former third-round pick launched the second pitch he saw over the left-field wall for a solo homer. It was Jimenez’s third home run with Brooklyn and his first since returning from Single-A St. Lucie on July 28, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

However, the Cyclones could get no closer.

In the bottom of the fourth, RF Camden Troyer reached on a two-out dropped third-strike throwing error before scooting to third on a C Eric Genther single. A passed ball enabled Troyer to score, placing Hudson Valley up 5-3.

The Renegades broke the game open with another two-out rally in the fifth.

McCann was plunked to start to keep the inning going before LF Dean Toigo lifted a pop-up into shallow center field. The second baseman dropped the ball, allowing McCann to score all the way from first while Toigo advanced to second with a run-producing double.

After a pitching change, 3B Hans Montero poked an RBI single to center to give Hudson Valley a 7-3 cushion.

That was more than enough run support for the Renegades’ bullpen. RHPs Brandon Decker and Wilmy Sánchez combined to retire the final 11 Brooklyn hitters to secure the 7-3 win.

RHP Sean Paul Liñan (3-8) collected the win for Hudson Valley in his first outing since returning from Double-A Somerset. The Cartagena, Colombia native permitted three runs on four hits over 5.0 innings, walking four and striking out four.

LHP Daviel Hurtado (5-3) suffered the loss for the Cyclones after permitting seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 4.2 frames. The 21-year-old did not issue a walk and punched out seven.

Brooklyn will try to secure a series split in the finale on Sunday afternoon. LHP Conner Ware (0-0, 6.75) is scheduled to make his first High-A start for the Cyclones. The Renegades have not yet announced a probable starter. First pitch from Heritage Financial Park is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. ET.
