11 Former Blue Wahoos Receive Non-Roster Spring Training Invitations

JUPITER, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced non-roster invitations to their Spring Training camp on Monday, including 11 players who previously appeared for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Pitchers Luarbert Arias (2023), Jeff Lindgren (2021-22), Patrick Monteverde (2022-23) and Devin Smeltzer (2019) will be competing for roster spots, joined by position players Jacob Berry (2023), Will Banfield (2022-23), Griffin Conine (2021-23), José Devers (2022-23), Bennett Hostetler (2023), Troy Johnston (2022-23) and Paul McIntosh (2022-23).

The non-roster invitees will be joined by 18 fellow Blue Wahoos alumni already on Miami's 40-man roster:

Luis Arráez (2019), Anthony Bender (2022), Peyton Burdick (2021), Edward Cabrera (2021), Bryan Hoeing (2022), Nick Fortes (2021), Avisaíl García (2023), Anthony Maldonado (2021-22), Victor Mesa Jr. (2023), Max Meyer (2021), Dane Myers (2023), Andrew Nardi (2021-22), A.J. Puk (2023), Eury Pérez (2022-23), Trevor Rogers (2022), Josh Simpson (2022), George Soriano (2022), Sixto Sánchez (2023).

Since their inaugural season in 2012, the Blue Wahoos have seen 130 former players reach the major leagues. Since becoming a Marlins affiliate in 2021, 16 players have ascended from Pensacola to Miami.

Eight former Blue Wahoos made their MLB debuts in 2023, headlined by Pérez, Lindgren, Soriano, Myers and Robert Garcia for the Marlins.

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos begin their 2024 season with a pair of exhibition games against the Mexican League's Sultanes de Monterrey on April 2 and 3, 2024. Their Southern League season begins Friday, April 5 at home against the Mississippi Braves.
