20 Former Lake Monsters On 2020 MLB Rosters

BURLINGTON, VT --- There are 20 former Vermont Lake Monsters on Major League rosters to start the 2020 season, including the MLB debuts for 2013 pitcher Kyle Finnegan with Washington and 2016 pitcher Brandon Bailey with Houston to increase total Lake Monsters to reach the Major Leagues to 112 all-time.

BURLINGTON, VT --- There are 20 former Vermont Lake Monsters on Major League rosters to start the 2020 season, including the MLB debuts for 2013 pitcher Kyle Finnegan with Washington and 2016 pitcher Brandon Bailey with Houston to increase total Lake Monsters to reach the Major Leagues to 112 all-time.

Finnegan went 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in 11 starts for Vermont during the 2013 season and was in the Oakland A’s organization until this past winter when the Nationals signed him as a Minor League free agent. He is the 11th player from the 2013 Lake Monsters to reach the Majors, the most from one season in Vermont’s 26-year history.

Bailey was 3-1 with a 3.08 ERA in 10 appearances (five starts) with 42 strikeouts over 38 innings for Vermont in 2016. He joins Oakland’s: Sean Murphy'16 and A.J. Puk'16 as members of the 2016 Lake Monsters to reach the Major Leagues.

The 20 former Lake Monsters are Major League rosters include 12 different MLB teams, including seven players with Oakland: Seth Brown'15, Jesus Luzardo '17, Murphy, Matt Olson '12,Chad Pinder '13, Lou Trivino '13 and Puk (who starts the season on 10-day IL)

Bailey joins Brad Peacock '08 (starting season on 10-day IL) on the Astros, while A.J. Cole '10 and Billy McKinney '13 both made the Blue Jays opening day roster. Craig Stammen '05 will begin his 11th MLB season in San Diego, while Tommy Milone '08 will be Baltimore’s opening day starter in his 10th Major League season.

The list does not include two longtime Major League Monsters, Ian Desmond '04 and Jordan Zimmermann '07. Desmond has opted out of playing the 2020 season with Colorado, while Zimmermann was recently put on the 60-day IL by Detroit.

In addition to the Major Leagues, there are nine former Lake Monsters at Oakland's alternate site (and between 6 and 12 at other MLB sites). These players are working out, continuing their development and some are staying ready in case they are needed to fill out roster spots in the Majors this season. The former Vermont players at the Oakland site are: pitchers Tyler Baum, Wandisson Charles, Parker Dunshee, Brian Howard, catcher Kyle McCann, infielder Logan Davidson, outfielders Luis Barrera, Skye Bolt and Greg Deichmann.
