Guardians Announce 2022 Player Development Staff Assignments
CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the organizational staff alignment within the PlayerDevelopment System for the upcoming Minor League season. Among the full-season Managers, Andy Tracy (second season) will again lead Triple-A Columbus, Rouglas Odor will guide Double-A Akron with Greg DiCenzo at High-A Lake County. Omir Santos
CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the organizational staff alignment within the PlayerDevelopment System for the upcoming Minor League season.
Among the full-season Managers, Andy Tracy (second season) will again lead Triple-A Columbus, Rouglas Odor will guide Double-A Akron with Greg DiCenzo at High-A Lake County. Omir Santos has been promoted from the Dominican Summer League Red club to take the helm for the Low-A Lynchburg Hillcats. Santos has been in the organizational coaching ranks since 2016 after a 12-year professional career and 122 Major League games (2008-13), including a stint with Cleveland in 2013. Jordan Smith, who played seven seasons in the organization from 2011-17, will manage the Arizona Complex League rookie-level club and Jesús Tavárez will again pilot the Dominican Summer League Blue club with Carlos Fermín assuming the reigns for the Red DSL squad.
Ilana Mishkin (Asst. Director, Player Development), Anna Bolton (Asst. Director, PD - Education) and Jennifer Wolf (Asst. Director, PD- Life Skills) have all been promoted from Coordinator to Assistant Director roles. Mishkin joined the club in 2019 as a Baseball Operations Fellow, transitioning to a full-time role the following season. As Asst. Director, the Olympia, WA native will continue supporting the global PD efforts with an additional focus on coaching tools, player programming, and staff hiring. Bolton is beginning her fourth season leading the club’s language and education efforts, joining the club in 2016 as the Major League Translator & Player Engagement Coordinator. Wolf, a graduate of Georgetown, also enters her fourth season with the club assisting players adjusting into professional baseball and overseeing Minor League housing. Prior to her time with the Guardians, she worked with the New York Mets for seven seasons. Also, Jeremy Harris has been promoted from Minor League Rehab Coordinator to Assistant Director of Medical Services. Harris, who joined the organization in 2018, will help lead medical processes and initiatives throughout the Minor Leagues.
Grant Fink will assume organizational Hitting Coordinator duties with JT Maguire moving to OF/Baserunning Coordinator and JB Eary becoming Infield Coordinator after a Bench Coach stint in the Dominican Summer League. Former Cleveland outfielder Daniel Robertson joins the coaching ranks as Omir Santos’ Bench Coach in Lynchburg. Robertson appeared in 32 games with Cleveland during the 2017 season and recently concluded a 12-year professional career. Ben Johnson and Josh Tubbs will also take on coordinator titles as Resource Coordinators for the pitching and hitting domains, respectively. Johnson and Tubbs will support department leads and domain coordinators when it comes to the coaching process while aiding the Arizona and Dominican coaching staffs.
The 2021 Minor League campaign brought great success to the Cleveland organization as the four full-season affiliates posted a .525 winning pct. (255-231), including a Double-A Northeast title for AA Akron (73-46, .613), their fifth league title since 2005. Overall, the seven Minor League clubs comprising the Player Development system posted a mark of 345-317(.521), the 11th-highest winning pct. Among the 30 Major League organizations. The 2022 Minor League season is currently slated to begin on April 5 (Triple-A) and April 8 (remaining three full-season levels), respectively. The seven Minor League clubs will remain aligned at their 2021 levels within the same divisions.
