Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Kernels Foundation are proud to announce Hannah Hughes and Austin Scranton as the recipients of the 2025 Nick Adenhart Memorial Scholarship. They will be recognized in a special pre-game ceremony before the Kernels game on June 15.

Hannah Hughes, a graduate of Prairie High School, will attend Iowa State University, where she plans to major in Business Management with a minor in Finance. Austin Scranton, a graduate of Anamosa High School, will attend Augustana University as a pre-physical therapy major. Both students have shown outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to community service throughout their high school careers.

The scholarship honors Nick Adenhart, a standout pitcher for the Kernels in 2006 who went on to pitch for the Los Angeles Angels. Just hours after making his 2009 season debut with the Angels, Nick’s life was tragically cut short by a drunk driver on April 9, 2009, at the age of 22.

To preserve Nick’s legacy, his family awards two $1,000 scholarships each year to deserving high school seniors. The Kernels Foundation is honored to administer the scholarships on the family's behalf.
