3 former River Cats have chance to take home World Series rings

The Astros, the American League’s No. 1 seed, has two past River Cats players, one of which is also a Sacramento product.
Utility player Maurcio Dubón was a fan-favorite while playing at Sutter Health Park. He was selected in the 26th round out of Capital Christian High School (Sacramento) in 2013 by Boston before eventually making his way over to the Giants in exchange for former River Cats lefty Drew Pomeranz and righty Ray Black.
He hit .329 with 64 runs, 17 doubles, 12 homers, and 40 RBIs in 88 games with the River Cats. Dubón made MLB history this postseason, becoming the first Honduras-born player to appear in a playoff game per Marly Rivera.
Although without an at-bat, Dubón has played center field four times this postseason, as a defensive replacement.
Houston’s other River Cats alum, lefty Will Smith (5.2 scoreless rehab innings for Sacramento in 2018), was added to the Astros’ World Series roster, and is their lone lefty in the bullpen.
Philadelphia’s River Cats representative, lefty Michael Plassmeyer, is not on the World Series roster, but would still earn the coveted ring thanks to his strong 7.1 innings on the mound to help the Phillies earn a Wild Card berth.
