West Sacramento, Calif. — The San Francisco Giants saw plenty of production from their homegrown talent, as three former River Cats teamed up to stifle the National League’s top scoring offense, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to take a 1-0 lead in the NL Division Series.

Right-hander Logan Webb (1-0), who made one rehab start for Sacramento in 2021, masterfully struck out 10 Dodgers through 7.2 shutout innings to earn the victory in his first career postseason game.

On July 1, Webb struck out one in a 2.0 inning rehab assignment for the River Cats. In 2019, he struck out seven while allowing just one run on one hit in a 7.0 inning performance for Sacramento.

Righty Tyler Rogers escaped one of Webb’s very few jams with a two-pitch effort to close out the eighth. Rogers, the 2017 and 2018 Sacramento Pitcher of the Year has pitched the third most games in River Cats’ history (179). He had 181 strikeouts, a 1.29 WHIP, and a .240 opposing batting average in 236.2 innings from 2016-2019.

Flame-throwing righty Camilo Doval took over for the ninth and struck out one, before finishing off the shutout victory. Doval made his Triple-A debut in 2021, striking out 44 in 30.2 innings. Including his final 9.1 innings with Sacramento before his promotion on Sept. 5, Doval has a 0.68 ERA and 43 strikeouts over his last 26.2 innings.

Second baseman Tommy La Stella, who played 12 rehab games for Sacramento this season, scored on catcher Buster Posey’s opposite field home run in the first inning for the early 2-0 lead.

San Francisco right-hander Kevin Gausman will take on lefty Julio Urías for game two of the series at 6:07 p.m. (PT) at Oracle Park on Saturday.

Additional Notes

  • In total, nine River Cats played in the victory. In addition to the three pitchers and La Stella, third baseman Evan Longoria, right fielder LaMonte Wade Jr., and center fielder Mike Yastrzemski all started, and second baseman Donovan Solano and center fielder Steven Duggar came off the bench.
  • The Giants added on to their 2-0 lead with a pair of solo home runs from shortstop Brandon Crawford and left fielder Kris Bryant.
