Bergeron Leads Vermont To 5-3 Win Tuesday

NASHUA, NH --- Andrew Bergeron snapped a 3-3 tie with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh inning as the Vermont Lake Monsters won its first-ever game 5-3 over the Nashua Silver Knights at Holman Stadium Tuesday night in Futures League action.
Bergeron (Georgetown) had ended the bottom of the sixth inning with a diving catch and throw to first base for an 8-3 double play before leading off the seventh with his first home run of the season. Bergeron gave the Lake Monsters an insurance run in the ninth when he led off with a walk, then stole both second and third before scoring on a Tom Vesosky suicide squeeze single.
A Daniel Carinci (Kansas State) one-out, two-run double to leftcenter and Vesosky (Southern Maine) two-out RBI single to right in the second inning gave Vermont a 3-0 lead. The Silver Knights cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the second on a Dylan Sullivan two-run homer to rightcenter.
Vermont starter Patrick Harrington (Assumption) gave up the two-run homer, but just one other hit with two walks and eight strikeouts over four innings of work. Through four starts this summer, Harrington has a 1.50 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 18 innings.
Nashua tied game in fifth off reliever Tyler Fagler (Dartmouth) on a Connor Hujsak RBI single, but he worked out of further trouble with a popout and groundout with runners on first and third before retiring five of last six batters faced for win. David Vial (Nicholls State) and Isaiah Rhodes (Southern Miss) each tossed 1-2-3 innings to clinch Vermont’s eighth win in last 10 games.
Noah Granet (Princeton) went 3-for-5 and has hit safely in 14 of 15 games played (currently hitting .361), while Vesosky was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Starter Jake Thibault allowed three runs on six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts over six innings for Nashua (5-11).
The roadtrip continues for Vermont (9-7) as the Lake Monsters head to Worcester for games Wednesday and Thursday before returning to Nashua to wrap up the five-game roadtrip Friday.
