BURLINGTON, VT --- Tommy Lapham snapped a 1-1 tie with an RBI single and Ryan McKenna added a two-run insurance homer as the Brockton Rox scored three times in the top of the ninth inning and then held on for a 4-3 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters Thursday night in Futures League action at historic Centennial Field.

Lake Monsters got the game’s first run in the fifth as Andrew Bergeron (Georgetown) walked, then stole both second and third before scoring on a wild pitch. After Brockton took the 4-1 lead in the top of the ninth, Bergeron cut the deficit to one with a two-out, two-run homer to leftfield.

Brockton had tied the game in the seventh when Steven Loden led off the inning with a ground-rule double and scored on a Tommy Lapham two-out RBI single to left.

Vermont pitchers combined to allow six hits and walk 10 Rox batters, but continually worked out of trouble early with 15 total strikeouts including 10 with a runner on 3rd base (five with less than two outs and five to end an inning) leading to 17 runners left on base for Brockton.

Starter Billy Oldham scattered four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over four scoreless innings for Vermont. The Eastern Connecticut State product has not allowed an earned run over 13 innings pitched in his last three starts.

Colton Carson struckout two in two scoreless innings of relief to pick uopp the win for Brockton (15-8), while Randall Perrin earned the save despite allowing the two-run homer to Bergeron in the bottom of ninth.

Vermont and Brockton will wrap up the two-game series at Centennial 7:05pm Friday before the Lake Monsters head out on the road until July 1st.
