Seven Sea Unicorns Named to FCBL All-Star Game

(Norwich, CT) – Seven members of the Norwich Sea Unicorns were named Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Stars on Monday when the league announced the rosters for the 2021 FCBL All-Star Game. Kalib Clark, Tremayne Cobb, Kaelen Culpepper, Spencer Fox, Kenny Heon, Bobby McBride, and Hunter Yaworski have been named to the East Squad and will represent the Sea Unicorns at the All-Star Game at 6:35 pm on July 13 at New Britain Stadium. Matt Malcom is on the All-Star Fan Vote ballot.

The seven Norwich All-Stars who made the East roster will play with selections from the Brockton Rox, Nashua Silver Knights, and Worcester Bravehearts. They will face the All-Stars on the West roster from the New Britain Bees, Pittsfield Suns, Vermont Lake Monsters, and Westfield Starfires. Additionally, Cobb will represent the Sea Unicorns in the Home Run Derby at New Britain Stadium on Monday, June 12 beginning at 7:30 pm as part of the FCBL All-Star Game festivities. Each of the eight FCBL teams will be represented by one Home Run Derby participant.

Kalib Clark (Waterbury, CT/Post University) has been one of the most effective relief pitchers in the league, earning three saves in 11 games while posting a 1.80 ERA. In 17 innings, he has struck out 25 and given up just nine hits. He closed regulation with three perfect innings of relief to set-up a Home Run Derby contest victory for the Sea Unicorns over Worcester on June 8.

Tremayne Cobb (Huntington, MD/University of Hartford) has been a consistent offensive producer for the Sea Unicorns, leading the team in home runs (3), RBI’s (15), and tied for the team lead in hits (24). He hit two long home runs on June 15 against Westfield and had a six-game hitting streak from June 2-10.

Kaelen Culpepper (Memphis, TN/Kansas State) has been one of the best on-base threats in the league, sitting fifth in the FCBL in batting average (.314) and fourth in OBP (.456). He leads the Sea Unicorns in both categories, as well as runs scored (16). He has collected 22 hits, one home run, 11 RBI’s, five stolen bases, 13 walks, and has been hit by a pitch six times. He went 5-6 with two RBI’s, two runs, and two stolen bases in a win over Nashua on June 12 and hit his first home run leading off the game on the Fourth of July win over Worcester.

Spencer Fox (Manchester, CT/Southern CT State University) has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the league coming out of the bullpen. He has one win and three saves with a 2.25 ERA in 12 games, logging 20.2 innings with 37 strikeouts. He currently has a scoreless streak of 17 innings across nine games and has earned saves by striking out the side in order in consecutive appearances.

Kenny Heon (Montville, CT/Mitchell College) has made his presence felt on the mound since joining the Sea Unicorns roster. He is appeared in five games and 9.1 innings, going 2-0 with a 0.96 ERA while striking out 15 with just one walk. In his first game with Norwich on June 16 against Nashua, he earned the victory with four shutdown innings that included eight strikeouts with no walks and just one hit.

Bobby McBride (Brewster, NY/UConn) is fifth in the league in strikeouts, fanning 38 in 23.1 innings. In his most recent start, he struck out 11 in five innings against Vermont on June 26, while scattering just two hits. He also struck out eight in four innings in his Sea Unicorns debut on May 27 against Brockton.

Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, CT)/Mitchell College) has been a steady force in the Sea Unicorns line-up, hitting .288 with 19 hits, five doubles, and nine RBI’s in 21 games. He delivered a key game-tying RBI double in a comeback win over Vermont on June 29.

Matt Malcom (East Lyme, CT/Eastern CT State University) is on the ballot for the All-Star Fan Vote, open from Thursday July 8 at 2:00 pm through Sunday July 11 at 11:59 pm. Malcom is second on the team with 14 RBI’s. Each team has one player on the ballot, with a winner from each division being announced on FCBL social media on Monday, July 12.
