MEMPHIS, TENN. – Alfredo Rodriguez helped spark a seven-run fifth inning and later homered as part of his 3-for-5 effort with three RBIs as the Louisville Bats took down the Memphis Redbirds 10-4 Tuesday night at AutoZone Park. Louisville is now 9-4 since the beginning of September.
The Redbirds broke into the scoring column with an early 3-0 lead, bringing home the night’s first run in the bottom of the second before returning to the plate in the third to add a pair of runs on a two-out double from Austin Dean.
Louisville responded to the deficit by getting on the scoreboard with a base hit by Freeman. Rodriguez followed with a line drive to right that brought across two more and tied the game at 3-3. Michael De Leon secured the lead for good on a ball back up the middle before Sanmartin helped his own cause with a looper over the shortstop's head that scored both De Leon and Chris Okey, who broke on contact with two outs.
Fancisco Urbaez capped off the seven-run inning, in which the Bats’ hit around the order, with his first Triple-A extra-base hit to extend the lead to 7-3.
Seven of nine Bats starters registered at least one hit, while five different Bats contributed multi-hit efforts in the contest. The offensive effort was led by Rodriguez, who contributed a 3-for-5 effort with two singles and his third home run of the season.
Four relievers worked an inning of relief each to hold Memphis to one run through the final four frames.
The two teams will be back in action at AutoZone Park Wednesday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET. RHP Riley O’Brien (7-6, 4.24) is set to start for Louisville, while Memphis will hand the ball to RHP Johan Oviedo (1-6, 6.61).
