PEARL, MS – On a night where the offense put up five runs, the Biloxi Shuckers (57-53, 23-18) had more than enough to work with in a 5-1 win over the Mississippi Braves (49-59, 16-24) at Trustmark Park on Wednesday night. The win extended Biloxi’s win streak to three straight

PEARL, MS – On a night where the offense put up five runs, the Biloxi Shuckers (57-53, 23-18) had more than enough to work with in a 5-1 win over the Mississippi Braves (49-59, 16-24) at Trustmark Park on Wednesday night. The win extended Biloxi’s win streak to three straight and was the 16th game of the year where the Shuckers’ pitching staff held the M-Braves to five runs or less.

The Shuckers’ offense started in the second with Wes Clarke’s 19th home run of the year, a 115 MPH shot to left. The home run puts Clarke in a tie for the third-most home runs in the Southern League. The Shuckers scored another on a sacrifice fly from Jeferson Quero in the fourth, scoring Isaac Collins and making it 2-0. Collins had previously reached on a triple, his second of the year.

That was more than enough for Shuckers’ starter Carlos Rodriguez, who allowed one hit over 4.2 innings of work to lower his ERA to 2.51 on the year, the second-lowest mark in Double-A.

The offense continued into the fifth with a bases-loaded walk from Jackson Chourio, and the Shuckers tallied another on an RBI single from Felix Valerio an inning later. Biloxi tallied their final run of the night on an RBI, bases-loaded walk from Ethan Murray in the seventh.

The Shuckers’ bullpen built off Rodriguez’s start with 1.1 scoreless innings from Nick Bennett and a scoreless seventh inning from Zach Vennaro. Ryan Brady finished out the game for Biloxi with four strikeouts over two innings, allowing the only M-Braves run of the night on a single from Luke Waddell in the eighth. The run ended an 18.1-inning scoreless streak from the Shuckers’ pitching staff.

Bennett (3-3) earned the win for Biloxi while Nick Margevicius (0-1) took the loss for the M-Braves.

Righty Tobias Myers is set to start for Biloxi on Thursday against righty Nolan Kingham. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Trustmark Park.

The game can be heard on Cruisin’ WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show featuring the Mississippi Army National Guard Pregame Interview. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
