PEARL, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers (59-54, 26-19) limited the Mississippi Braves (50-61, 17-26) to three runs for the third straight game, but the M-Braves limited Biloxi’s offense to one in a 3-1 Shuckers’ loss on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. The loss snapped Biloxi’s five-game win streak, their third of at least five games in 2023.

In the first inning, the M-Braves struck first with an RBI single from Luke Waddell off Shuckers’ starter Christian Mejias. Javier Valdés then brought home the second run of the inning with a two-out double off the bat at 102 MPH, one of four batted balls in the inning of at least 100 MPH. The M-Braves tallied their third and final run of the day in the fourth off an RBI single from Cody Milligan.

M-Braves’ starter Domingo Robles held the Shuckers’ lineup at bay over five shutout innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.

In the fifth, a single and two walks led to Mejias’ exit with the bases loaded and one out, but reliever James Meeker walked the tightrope and struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning and keep the game at 3-0.

Luis Amaya entered for the Shuckers in the eighth inning, and struck out two over two scoreless innings, keeping the deficit at three.

In the ninth, Wes Clarke walked with one out and Zavier Warren singled to right with two outs, putting the tying run at the plate. Down to his final strike, Ernesto Martinez golfed a curveball into right, scoring Clarke and giving Biloxi their first run of the day. M-Braves closer Ty Tice, however, induced a groundball to second, ending the late Shuckers’ rally and securing his third save of the year. Robles (7-7) earned the win while Mejias (4-10) took the loss for Biloxi.

The Shuckers and M-Braves will wrap up their season series on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Righty Jacob Misiorowski is set to start for Biloxi after tying the single-game franchise record with 12 strikeouts over six shutout innings on Tuesday. Righty Alan Rangel is scheduled to start for the M-Braves.

The game can be heard on Cruisin’ WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 1:50 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show featuring the Mississippi Army National Guard Pregame Interview. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
