*BILOXI, MS *– The Biloxi Shuckers (60-57, 26-22) had home runs from Jackson Chourio and Wes Clarke, but a late homer from Paul McIntosh proved to be the difference in a 4-3 loss for the Shuckers against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (66-50, 25-23) at MGM Park on Thursday night.

The Shuckers struck first off Blue Wahoos’ starter Patrick Monteverde, who entered the day with the best ERA among all pitchers in Double-A. In the second, Wes Clarke smashed a 110 MPH line drive to left for his 21st home run of the year, giving Biloxi a 1-0 lead.

Shuckers’ starter TJ Shook then worked around trouble in the third. With the bases loaded and one out, he struck out back-to-back batters, including Paul McIntosh on a curveball to strand three runners, keeping the Shuckers ahead. He exited the fifth after 4.2 scoreless innings, leaving two runners on when he departed.

McIntosh then walked with the bases loaded to score the first run, tying the game at one. The next batter, Norel González, drove in the second inherited runner and Victor Mesa Jr., who walked, to take a 3-1 lead.

The Shuckers got within one with an RBI fielder’s choice from Lamar Sparks, marking the first time in Monteverde’s career that he allowed multiple runs in a start against Biloxi. Jackson Chourio then led off the sixth with a 417-foot opposite field home run off the scoreboard in right, 15 feet further than any opposite field home run hit by a Brewers’ player in 2023, per Brewers’ reporter Curt Hogg. The home run was Chourio’s 19th of the year and tied the game at three.

In the eighth, McIntosh led off the inning with a solo shot to right, giving Pensacola a 4-3 lead. Pensacola threatened later in the inning, but Lamar Sparks threw out Cody Morissette trying to score from second on a single, keeping the deficit at one.

In the ninth, the Shuckers got a leadoff walk against Jefry Yan, but a double play and a strikeout gave Yan his 13th save of the year. Luarbert Arias (2-1) took the win for Pensacola while Max Lazar (0-2) took the loss for Biloxi.

Lefty Adam Seminaris makes his first start for Biloxi on Friday since being activated off the 60-Day Injured List earlier in the week. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with postgame fireworks to follow.
