*BILOXI, MS *– On a night where the Biloxi Shuckers (74-61, 40-26) needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, Tobias Myers delivered with eight strikeouts over 6.1 innings, and the offense supplied nine runs in a 9-2 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (78-58, 42-25) at MGM Park in front of 4,178, the Shuckers’ third-largest crowd of 2023.

The Shuckers supplied the offense early and often, plating a run in the first with an RBI double from Wes Clarke, scoring Jackson Chourio from second. One batter later, Ernesto Martinez extended the lead to three with a two-run, 416-foot blast to right-center. In the second, Zavier Warren extended the lead to four with a solo shot to right that snuck over the wall for his 15th home run of the year. Three batters later, Chourio brought home his 89th RBI of the year with a single to left-center. Isaac Collins scored from third during the next at-bat after Chourio was thrown out trying to steal second, making it 6-0.

Myers, meanwhile, dominated the early going. Despite a solo home run from Bob Seymour in the fourth, Myers tallied six strikeouts and allowed one run through the first five innings. In the bottom of the fifth, the Shuckers plated two more off Wes Clarke’s league-leading 26th home run of the year, a two-run shot to left-center. The home run puts Clarke one away from tying the Shuckers’ single-season record, set by Corey Ray in 2018.

With Biloxi up 8-1, the teams traded runs in the sixth, both scoring off errors. Myers ended his night after 6.1 innings and 100 pitches, ending his regular-season with 168 strikeouts, a single-season franchise record. From there, a combination of Shane Smith and Nick Bennett out of the Shuckers’ bullpen locked down a 9-2 win. Myers (10-5) earned the win while Biscuits’ starter Sean Hunley (5-5) took the loss.

With the win, the Shuckers need to win both of their final two regular-season games to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2019. The Shuckers face the Biscuits on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. TJ Shook is set to start for the Shuckers against righty Cole Wilcox for the Biscuits. The Shuckers will honor a local organization through the Heart of a Shucker Community Fund to celebrate Shuck Yeah Saturday. The Shuckers will also wear special YMCA Jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. There will be a special YMCA Youth Sports Parade prior to first pitch.

The game can be heard on Cruisin’ WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show featuring the Mississippi Army National Guard Pregame Interview. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv for free as the MLB Pipeline Game of the Month.
