Indianapolis responded right back in the bottom of the first inning. 2B Nick Gonzales launched a solo homer of his own, his 13th home run of the season to tie the game at one.
The Indians took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, kicked off by a single from CF Chris Owens. Two batters later, LF Canaan Smith-Njigba hit a two-run home run over the center field wall, his 14th of the season, to give the Indians a 3-1 lead.
The Indians scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. SS Vinny Capra and 3B Domingo Lyba singled to put runners on first and second. C Grant Koch worked a walk to load the bases, and Nick Gonzales brought home Capra on a walk to make it a 4-1 game. The next batter, Canaan Smith-Njigba cleared the bases with a double to extend the Indians lead to 7-1. DH Ryan Vilade singled and drove in Smith-Njigba to make it 8-1 heading to the fifth.
The Indians brought 12 men to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Owens singled to leadoff the inning and moved to third on a double by Gonzales. Later in the inning, Capra hit a two-run single to left field, bringing in Vilade and 1B Matt Gorski to extend the lead to 12-1.
